FREE WORKSHOP (VIDEO)

Writing when not at the height of your powers

Maybe you’re back from the summer and getting to grips with the new semester. Or you’ve been unwell but are feeling better, or have moved house but are getting settled in. Perhaps you’ve just returned from parental leave, or are resuming your creative-intellectual work after burnout, caregiving, or a pause.

And you want to get back to writing — and you do have some time — but it feels very difficult to get in.

This workshop offers you a guided exploration for writing when you’re not at the height of your powers.

How can we meet ourselves in such moments? What’s possible beyond avoiding our texts, or trying to discipline ourselves into pushing through?

The video

Registering below gives you access to the instructional parts of the live workshop I ran on 1 September 2026.

My hope is that the perspective I present here, and the guided exploration I take you through, give you a renewed sense of possibility. And that you leave with the basics of an approach for supporting yourself in your writing — one you can return to whenever you need it.

This is both a stand-alone session and a taster for my upcoming 8-week programme for academic writers, Cultivating a Sustainable Writing Practice (2 October – 1 December 2026).

Note: Registering will sign you up for my newsletter, through which I send periodic content and offers. You can unsubscribe at any time.
